Programs & Curriculum
With four locations in LaGrange, Grafton, Oberlin and Wellington, OH, The Child Garden strives to provide quality child care and learning programs for children throughout Southern Lorain County. Our qualified, trained teachers create a nurturing, safe and secure environment where children can have fun, make friends, and develop a lifelong love of learning that will lead to future success. The Child Garden is where kids grow and blossom!
Nurturing, Quality Child Care & Learning Programs to Help Your Child Grow
Infants (6 weeks – 18 months) & Toddlers (18 months – 36 months)
Infants and toddlers in our care are engaged in age-appropriate activities designed to encourage their cognitive and social development. Infants are provided with an individualized schedule based on their needs, while toddlers spend their time with us in a combination of nurturing care, play, and learning.
Preschool (3 – 5 years)
Our preschoolers participate in activities that explore their interests while strengthening their learning and social skills. Our degreed preschool teachers use a quality curriculum while creating a nurturing, caring environment where children can feel confident, safe and secure. Preschoolers gain the skills they need to be successful when they enter kindergarten and beyond.
Private preschool programming is offered at select centers. Private preschool is a traditional part-day preschool for children between the ages of 3 and 5. Children can be enrolled in this program only or as an add-on to daycare programming. The program is run by a degreed staff member and each teacher has a Child Development Associate or higher as well as extensive training in the area of preschool education. This program will prepare children for Kindergarten and beyond!.
At our Oberlin location, we have areas designated for children in kindergarten through fifth grade enrolled in K12/OHVA online homeschooling. Students can meet and study together in these spaces, and have access to the assistance of Learning Coaches for additional support. We also schedule field trips and additional lessons (such as violin, Taekwondo, art and computer coding) for these students. Because this program is only offered in our Oberlin location, space is limited.
Before & After School
Our centers offer care for kindergarteners in half-day programs, as well as before and after school care and non-school-day care for children ages 5-12. In these programs we encourage children’s social skills and allow them to develop friendships while continuing their learning.
If your child needs care on an as-needed, rather than a scheduled, basis, call one of our centers for information on how to preregister for our back-up/drop-in care program.
Summer Programs & Camp
Learning doesn’t have to end just because school is out! We offer engaging, fun, and educational weekly field trips for children ages 6-12.
Each of our centers utilize The Creative Curriculum, which offers the nation’s leading strength-based education in the areas of literacy, social studies, mathematics, science and more. The Creative Curriculum is applicable for students of all ages and for bilingual students.
Screenings, Assessments and Progress Reports
The Child Garden uses multiple developmental screening tools to assess each child’s development. Ages and Stages as well as Deca screenings are two of the screenings used regularly. Parents will be given checkpoint assessments 2 times per year so that each child’s progress can be monitored and parents can celebrate their child’s yearly achievements in all areas.
